<p>High Deductible Health Plans have a higher deductible than a traditional insurance plan. The monthly premiums are usually lower, but the caveat is that you end up paying for your healthcare costs (your deductible) before your insurance company does.</p>

<p>In 2020, the average deductible for a single coverage HDHP was around $2,200, and around $4,500 for one with family coverage.</p><p>These plans have grown in popularity in recent years; in 2020, 31% of employees in the U.S. were enrolled in HDHPs. According to the KFF 2020 Employee Health Benefits Annual Survey, Single Coverage HDHP plans cost slightly less ($6,890) than other plans in the U.S., but are similar for those with family coverage ($20,359):</p>
