	<p>The translocation that results in the formation of the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome (translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22) leads to the development of the BCR-ABL fusion gene. The BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase is produced by the BCR-ABL gene. In chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL-positive cells proliferate more and are more resistant to cell death.</p>
