What is Benazepril For?

Benazepril is a medication that treats high blood pressure. It is part of a drug class called ACE inhibitors and blocks a substance in the body that constricts blood vessels thus allowing them to relax and for blood to flow easier.

Dose

At first, your healthcare provider will most likely start you at 10 mg per day, which can be taken at any time of day with or without food. Your dose may increase later on depending on your responsiveness to the medication. For children over the age of 6, the dose will be determined by their healthcare provider based on their weight.

Note: this medication may be less effective for those of African descent. There is also a higher risk of swelling in the hands, arms, face, or throat while on this medication.

• Unusual fatigue or weakness

The following medications may reduce the efficiency of benazepril or put you at higher risk of unwanted side effects or health conditions. • Medications to treat low blood pressure, heart failure, asthma, or allergies
• Other high blood pressure medications (e.g., aliskeren)
• Medications with the side effect of lowering blood pressure
• Medications that reduce immune function
• Medications that increase potassium
• Diabetes medications
• Prednisolone
• Allopurinol
• Lithium
