Uses
Candesartan (brand name: Atacand) is used to treat high blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack, strokes, and other health complications that may arise with high blood pressure.
Candesartan belongs to the drug class angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). This means the drug blocks certain natural chemicals in the body from acting on the blood vessels, allowing them to loosen and blood pressure to reduce.
Dose
The adult dose is typically one candesartan 16 mg tablet daily or split into 2 doses. Your healthcare provider may begin you on a low dose of 4 mg per day to see how you react and allow your body to adjust to the medication and limit side effects.
Candesartan max dose is 32 mg per day.
Doses for children will be calculated by the healthcare provider based on weight. This medication is not recommended for children under a year old.
