Eplerenone (Inspra)

Eplerenone Uses

Eplerenone (Inspra)—pronunciation: uh·plur·uh·naan—is used for managing high blood pressure. It works by blocking aldosterone, a natural steroid hormone in the body which balances salts in the kidneys by releasing potassium and storing sodium.

This medication may also be prescribed to treat congestive heart failure and hyperaldosteronism (a condition where your body produces too much aldosterone).

Eplerenone Dosage

The typical starting dose for eplerenone is 50 mg once per day. This may change depending on your responsiveness to the medication.

Doses for children 4 years old and under are determined by the healthcare professional typically based on weight.

Eplerenone Side Effects

Interactions

Some medications are known to affect the way eplerenone works or increase your chance of side effects. Speak to your healthcare provider about any current medications and new medications you may begin taking while on eplerenone.

Some medications that may interact with eplerenone are:

  • Other medications used to treat high blood pressure

If you choose to drink, be sure to not exceed the daily recommended limit of 1 unit/day for women and 2 units/day for men.
