Quinapril (Accupril)

Quinapril brand name: Accupril.

What is Quinapril?

Quinapril (pronunciation: kwi·nah·pril) is a medication used to treat high blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke and heart failure. Quinapril belongs to the ACE inhibitor drug class. It blocks a substance in the body that constricts blood vessels, allowing them to relax and for blood to flow easier.

Dosage

Your healthcare provider will most likely start you on a prescription of quinapril 10 mg or 20 mg per day. This may vary depending on your response to the medication. The maximum dose of quinapril is 80 mg once a day or two doses of 40 mg. This medication is available as a tablet. It can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.

This medication is also available in combination with another medication and is known as quinapril hydrochlorothiazide, or by its brand name Accuretic. This medication combines quinapril with a diuretic and is prescribed to patients who may require more than one medication to reduce their blood pressure.
