About Xarelto (rivaroxaban)

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs called factor Xa inhibitors, sometimes referred to as blood thinners.

Xarelto is used to reduce the risk of blood clots and strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation (a condition where the heart beats irregularly). Xarelto is also prescribed for the treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), which are types of blood clots that can occur in the legs and lungs, respectively.

Additionally, Xarelto is used to prevent blood clots in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery, and to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD). By inhibiting factor Xa, Xarelto helps to decrease the clotting ability of the blood, thereby preventing harmful clots from forming
